K.R. Circle to be free of traffic jams
Mysore, Feb. 4 (KMC&KK)-In a bid to prevent traffic jams at K.R. Circle caused by public demonstrations, the district administration has decided to restrict the demonstrations to the Gandhi Square only and not give permission at the K.R. Circle henceforth.
This measure will come into force from Mar. 1, said City Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal.
Mayor Sandesh Swamy, who accompanied Agarwal during an inspection yesterday, said a podium will be erected in front of the Gandhi statue for the conduct of demonstrations, public gatherings, speeches, etc.
The route of procession in the city also has been changed. "Processions will have to be taken via Old Bank Road to Sayyaji Rao Road. From there to Dhanvanthri Road, Dewan's Road and via Metropole Circle, reach the Deputy Commissioner’s office," said Agarwal and invited suggestions or complaints if any, with regard to the procession route.
MCC Commissioner K.S. Raikar, who was also present during the inspection, told press persons that a spot for erecting a platform in front of Gandhi Square had been identified and the work will be completed by the end of this month.
"Road widening will be taken up wherever necessary and footpath encroachers will be evicted," Raikar said and added that the vacant space in the K.R. Hospital premises along the Dhanvanthri Road will be utilised for parking of vehicles. This can be operated by the Hospital authorities themselves and collect revenue for the Hospital's development, he said.
